seaside {subtly} chic

Summer is officially here and it is time for people to venture off to there seaside summer retreats. This also means that beach homes are popping in almost every shelter magazine I open. I used to love the classic blue, red and nautical touches in these seasonal homes but am now drawn to a more sophisticated look, one that subtly draws on the colors and textures of a beach setting--just like these...

Three great pictures! Loving the wood end table, the art in the 2nd pic, and the subtle color in the last pic. So calming!

I live at the beach and it's a constant adventure thinking of how to make our beach place more like the beach... ;)

Hi Blair! I love the trellis room!! I bought the designer Joe Ruggerio's old house (years ago) and he had French trellises everywhere. I'm going to look for photos. It's why I fell in love with the house, which was actually a charming dump. I was just talking this morning about that house with my kids. How I'd let the creeping fig vines crawl from the exterior walls through the cracks in the old french doors and overtake the living room. It was a huge living room with 20 foot ceilings. I thought it was magical. My mom thought it looked derelict. So when she listed the house as our agent, she insisted we rip out the vines and replaster the walls and ceiling.

This post has inspired me to add some more trellises in my current house. I have them on the outside and backing fountains in the garden. But I just may add to the master. I guess I should leave the creeping fig to the garden since this one's a lease :) xoxo

Middle picture: I really like how the designer here utilizes the mirror wall by adding a foreground pattern and border to subdue the look a mirror creates. Very thoughtful.
