Buon Viaggio!

I will be taking my first trip to Europe this spring--Italy is to be exact. I am beyond elated but am having a hard time pinning down details beyond the flight there and back--so many places to see and of course so little time. I would love any recommendations for my itinerary that you all may have! The one thing that is for sure is that I would love to spend time unwinding on a terrace just like this one...

I went to Rome, Cinque Terre and Santa Margherita this summer and would HIGHLY recommend them all. I also loved Positano and Florence when I went a couple years ago. Email me if you'd like any specific recommendations!

Yay!! So excited for you. My favorite city by far was lucca. It is a walled city and absolutely beautiful. My favorite by far.

My husband and I went to Italy a few years ago and LOVED it. You really can't go wrong. The people are warm, the food is great, and the views are amazing. I highly recommend Rick Steve's Italy book. It's sooo helpful before you go and while you're there. Our very favorite spot was Cinque Terre where we could wake up and fall asleep to the sound of the Mediterranean. We also loved Rome, Pompeii, a gondola ride in Venice, and organic gelato from "Grom" in Florence. Have fun!!

I agree with the Cinque Terre, but don't tell too many people how much you love it when you get back. Really take time to wander around Corniglia. You have to climb a lot of steps to get there, so eat once you get to the top. (We stayed in Monterosso and started the hike in Riomaggiore. Half of us cheated and took the train to our hotel but missed beautiful Vernazza in the process.) Venice is also a city that will get into your soul. The gardens of Tivoli (near Rome) will enchant you if you're a romantic and can picture yourself being courted and stealing kisses in all its nooks and crannies. And finally, Assisi was a place of peace and beauty... and some cute shops.

Don't miss all the amazing art in Rome and Florence! And make sure to make an appointment in advance to visit many of the museums. I'd suggest Rick Steve's Europe website for tips (except fashion advice, lol). I also kept a bit of a journal while I was there~now I can look back on it on a bad day and take myself back to those places =) Have so much fun planning!

I did a study abroad there and loved it! Check out Sienna (the James bond movie and letters to Juliet show the famous campo) Florence, cinque Terra, lucca is fun to ride bikes around the city wall, definitely hit the amalfi coast ( tons of celebrities go there and capri is just a boat ride off) and of course Rome and Venice! You'll have a blast!!!!

Have a fabulous, fabulous time! I spent about 8 weeks in Italy a few years ago and it was fabulous... And that was in winter!

You're going to love it! Rome and Florence are two of those cities I think everyone should see once and then there are so many other beautiful places...Sorrento, Ischia, Positano, Sardegna, Sicily, Lake Como and the surrounding area. Really depends on what you're looking for. Calabria also has some beautiful beaches.

Luck you!!! Tuscany (Lucca, Siena, Florence and the smaller towns) would guarantee you the feeling of the picture you show here - heavenly. We'll be there in June and I can't wait. I agree on Cinque Terra especially though - we were there last year and it's very special and unique! We went to Rome, Tuscany, Florence and Venice for our 20th anniversary a few years ago. We used a company called Italy Source to plan the trip...they were fabulous and made everything so easy. They arranged private guides in each area, private transfers and tours (no groups). http://www.italysource.com/. In Tuscany, we stayed at the Castelletto di Montebenichi - HEAVEN! If you want a relaxing, outside garden terrace I suggest going to Il Rifrullo on the Oltarno side of Florence. FYI Oltarno means "other side" of the Arno river which divides Florence in half. There you will find the real Florence that is less touristy with beautiful boutiques and the best restaurants... Be sure to stop by Golden View for an aperativo before dinner to enjoy the elegant but cozy ambience! Another amazing place is Il Profeta, such great home-cooked meals and they will make you feel like family. Buon viaggio!

I went to Rome, Florence, Venice, Cinque Terre, and Cortona this summer! They were all unbelievable!
rome: Colosseum/all tourist/history things!
florence: shopping anyway!
venice: my favorite and try to get lost in the alleyways, you will find the cutest untouched stores. visit st. marks square
cinque terre: Monotorosso to be exact! perfect mediterranean beach, beyond gorgoeus
Cortona: amazing food! go into town and shop!

You must go to CAPRI and Ana Capri (on the island of CAPRI) off the coast of Naples, just a short boat ride. It is breathtaking! Have a blast!

If you want to relax on a beautiful terrace underneath olive and caper trees take a boat from Napoli to the stunning Isola di Salina, it is easily one of the most beautiful places on earth! Drink the local wine, eat tomato salad with the local caperberries grown on the island and swim in the turquoise waters. Enjoy!

Oh you're in for a treat! Sicily is truly heaven on earth. And the Amalfi Coast has breathtaking scenery. I've also found the Lake Region (Como, Menaggio, etc.) so beautiful and peaceful.
Really wherever you choose, you'll have an unforgettable trip- Italy is a delight for the eyes. Enjoy it so much!

my favorite place was by FAR San Gimignano in Tuscany, not far from Siena. Honestly, staying in a villa there was one of the best experiences of my life. Check out the hotel Il Vicaro in ulignano. check it out on trip advisor, the reviews speak for themselves!
