perfect [rustic chic] style

When I hear the word rustic in relation to interior design I think cozy but I also tend to think dark and heavy as well. However, that is not necessarily always the case--rustic can also be bright and light when white is added to soften the natural elements or by using lighter toned wood.

And the chill in the air is definitley leaving me wishing I had just that type of cozy space to warm up in.

I just think there is something about cooking a pot of chili in a rustic (and chic!) kitchen that is much more appealing than in a contemporary or modern one.

And the being immersed in the warmth of rustic style's natural elements would make it so much easier to bear to dropping temperatures (and snow!)

How would you define rustic?

You're right! When I think "rustic" more often then not I do think dark and cozy---these photos illustrate just the opposite, bright open rustic interiors. I love them!
Great job...

Great photos...I think of rustic as simple, real, laid back and truly lived in. All those photos make me want to pen an epic novel...if only I had that talent :)

Love that rustic kitchen with its open shelving and exposed beams. Light and airy you are so right.

Rustic just conjures up images of natural, wooden, often rough and a little less polished...
I could easily spend the weekend in this set!

the two kitchens describe me to a tee. I just adore the rustic look although chipped paint is something I can not do. I think more of raw woods, stone, neutrals, but with texture.

Love these pics... when I think of rustic I think of lots of texture, uneven finishes but a warm overall feel.
oh man, that kitchen from canadian house & home is beyond fantastic!
I would definitely say that my design style has a lot of rustic in it!
