al fresco dining {by light}

I am finally getting to spend sometime on my deck with a glass of wine at the end of the day and wish that I had a more glamorous form of lighting then my current flood lights, perhaps a lovely chandelier? I just so prefer a soft glow when outdoors in the evening--whether the light source has a more modern edge...
...exudes casual glamour...

or is quaint and rustic.

How do you light your outdoor living and dining areas? Also, I am completely crazy about the first outdoor space and you can see more of it right here--it is part of a wonderful patio makeover.

Love them all! That second one is especially appealing--I think it has to do with the contrast between the worn, aged brick and the sleek, modern table and pendant lamp.

We don't have a yard since we live in an apartment, but we have rooftop access with a view of the whole city--I'm dying to host a party up there, complete with lots of hanging lanterns and christmas lights@

that first one is beautiful. if i didn't have a dog that chewed up every outside piece of furniture, that would be mine.

I love love love the first picture with chandelier. Reminds me of my grandmother's seashell chandelier she has and always reminds me of the beach during summer!
Oh so pretty. They all put my patio to shame. Love all them, but my favorite has to be 3rd image.

Hope you have a great 4th!
loving that quaint and rustic table and divine chandelier! xo

i love the coral chair pads in that first patio!

we have a little sitting area where we have a large chiminea and patio chairs with side tables. it's in the corner of our garden, and just last summer we'd put a short panel of fenced latticework to enclose the area a bit more.

we wanted to maintain an intimate atmosphere, so we wove all-white outdoor christmas lights in amongst the ivy and clematis growing up the fence - the green cords blend in well with the plants, and the little lights provide just enough twinkle to enhance the mood.
Love the last two. Quaint and rustic for me.

These are all so cute. I am in love with the first pic because I have that exact same chair! My sis-in-law emailed me to check out this post. We found it at a garage sale for $27! I love it. Now I'm loving the little cushions.

I would love to be relaxing at any one of these ...they are all so dreamy!
I light with lanterns. They don't blow out and have that lovely candle light glow. I have also made a square cut out made out of wood, hung it with rope, and placed battery lit "candles" on it for a chandelier. They look so realistic and are very safe. I love the last picture. Looks like good friends are about to dine....
I love eating outside during the summer...it is one of the things that I look forward to the most. I love all these pictures...they are such lovely inspiration. Thanks for sharing them. Sorry no tips on lighting since I don't currently have a pation area but I do agree that a chandelier would be nice.

Okay I must go enjoy my deck now...if only it looked half as good as any of these!
I love hanging lights but in our garden, there's no way to do that over the dining table. So I've got candles on that. But just yesterday, I hung a candle chandelier over the seating area and I couldn't stop oohing and aahing! Happy 4th, Blair!
