finally giving in {open kitchen shelving}

I have to admit that I am not the most organized person and for that reason I have long resisted the trend of open shelving in kitchens but lately I have seen too many lovely examples of it to hold off any longer.

Do you think you can be tidy enough to have open kitchen shelving? Be back in a bit with a french inspired garden wedding inspiration board.

Yes, me too! I'm desperately craving open shelving but I'm pretty positive I'm way too messy for it. Either way, these are great inspiration pics :-)

I love this look. If my kitchen was that pretty, I like to think I could keep it neat. Who knows, though. It will probably be a good few years before I have a kitchen big enough to attempt it, anyway!
lovely look you have here! hope you are doing great, i've got something for you on my bloggish :)

Oh I couldn't do that. Not only are my things unorganized, but I don't have any pretty dishes to show off :(
It looks good in other kitchens, though.
Open shelving is nice as long as u don't live in earthquake country!. lol also I think its nice to have some closed shelving otherwise it will look like u couldn't afford to have any cabinets.

I agree, I do love this look and I think it can be managed if things have a designated spot - not too much clutter...I do love the look.
You always post what I want or am thinking about.

Love the look, but I would never be brave enough or neat enough to get by with hit. I think I would feel like I had to wash everything again right before I used it... bugs and dust, etc.

I love the look but wonder how much extra work it will make for me. The dishes are more prone to collecting dust I bet.

i have one open shelf. that's it. i'd love to have more. but like you, i'm not very organized either. i start out that way, but it does not last very long. :)

I LOVE open shelving. I wanted it in the kitchen and my husband said no way. I wish we had. go for it!

I really do adore each of these. I definitely can see my husband and I doing this one day. I love the look!

I absolutely love this look, but I'm afraid my cat Gilbert would systematically knock every single dish onto the floor. And think it's funny.
Love, love your blog!
I didn't choose open shelving for my kitchen because I thought I was not tidy enough for it. But I did choose an open dressing room and now I can see that it helps you keep everything tidy! Besides it's lovely... go for it Blair!

welcome to the other side!
open shelving is the only way for me, not because i'm organized but because i don't like sticking my hands into dark spaces...ever.

I do love the way it looks, and while I'm a fairly organized person... a lot of my dishes are not. They're all a little mismatched (but not in a good display type way!)

I do love it! I have all monochromatic dishes and everything and I did have open shelving in my last home... BUT (a huge BUT here)... everything got SO dusty! Has anyone else experienced that? When I re-do my current kitchen (which needs it BAD) I am going to do a mix of both, keeping the open shelving far, far away from the stove (to avoid dust + steam or even worse dust + grease).

my cabinets are ridiculously organized so this would be perfect for me. Although I am not sure about the dust.
Waxy said…
I could do it, but the dust would definitely be a problem - would save a heck of a lot of money on the kitchen redo I am looking at doing though!

It's so, so pretty but I can't kid myself, my kitchen would be a disaster with just open shelving. Plus my dishes are slightly mismatched.

I really love this look, especially after seeing these beautiful pics you put up!

Blair-
this is an amazing collection! I love this idea but am always a little doubtful at my own ability (and my husbands!) to keep tidy...

I am with you, I have been loving them lately too even though I didn't start out that way. Maybe in my next house?

Open shelving is the only way to go for me, and I love it.

It makes the getting and the going back so easy, and everyone can help themselves.

And no, not everything is white.
Just keep like with like.
Bowls with bowls, cups with cups, etc.

All these photos make me want to rearrange my kitchen. I thought I could be organized enough to pull off open shelving in my studio...but I was totally delusional. It's a constant struggle to keep it presentable.

apparently great minds think alike! That top kitchen is divine - i'm completely in love

I love the open shelving, it is so simple and easy to see exactly where everything is. The trend seems to follow the pared down spending people are doing these days. Is going simple going to be the new trend?
