mirror image [fireplace]

I have seen many cases of mirror backed built in shelves but I had never seen it done to a fireplace and I quite love it! Just as with mirrored shelves it definitely makes the space seem larger. I can't imagine how beautiful it looks at night when the candelabra placed inside of it is lit.

It almost make me wish that I had a non working fireplace (well at least in the summer!)What is the most creative non working fireplace decor/solution you have seen?

my sister stacked up books in hers. it looked really neat!

i think that is the most creative solution i've seen yet! but the mirror idea is even better—or better yet, a combination of both!

I would give anything for a working or non-working fireplace! But I have neither. I do like the idea of placing a plant and sculpture combo. Any interesting larger focal pieces would work. It might also look cool to place a box the shape of the floor of the fireplace and fill it with gravel as well a modern assortment of plants, flowers, cacti plus maybe a funky iron sculpture.

every house i've had in athens has non working fireplaces (they're mostly a pain.) this is a great solution though. i try to focus on decorating the mantle so that you don't notice the actual bottom part. currently, we have one in our bedroom and i've stacked books in front of it (not so creative, huh?)

Hi Blair - I like this idea; very novel. I just did a post a couple of days ago on a house & in their fireplace they had a red metal sculpture - it really suited their decor style. Makes me wonder how else people manage the space of a non-working fireplace. I guess I'll just have to check the comments to this post again later to find out!

Yes, I love this too! I read on another designer's blog over the weekend, Eddie Ross, where he did the same thing!
