Not Just for Bridesmaids

Teal is more than just a color for an 80's bridesmaid dress. It is absolutely beautiful in a home when combined with the right colors. It can make a room look effortlessly chic when combined with other jewel tones and a pop of pattern, as in these rooms via domino:

Or very sophisticated when combined with this white paneling and beautiful black and white rug (room via pointclickhome)

Soothing Sancturay

This bright and soothing bedroom is in Chip von Weise's beautifully renovated 1880's townhouse in the Gold Coast of Chicago. I love the pale blue in contrast to the dark bed frame and charcoal sketches. I also really like the way they mixed the antique bedside table with the modern leather headboard and light fixtures.

Bejeweled

I was told the other day that I am difficult to buy jewelry for and that my taste was too eclectic. I disagreed, of course, but couldn't really define what I liked either so I decided to post all the jewelry I am currently admiring. I tend to only like wearing one piece of jewelry at a time so I lean toward bold choices--giving me at least a place to start. I found out that I really am easy to shop for, as everything I liked fell in to one of two distinct groups. Let's call the first gilded glamour--definitely more evening choices:

{crystal embellished cuff from Janis by Janis Savitt, cluster ring from Erickson Beamon,
cuff from Fendi, bangle from Ippolita, earrings from Ten Thousand Things}

The second theme, which was actually no surprise to me, was turquoise. This tends to be my staple jewelry during the daytime:
{Cuff from Jose & Maria, earrings from Anthony Nack, ring from Ippolita, braclet from J.Crew}

True Fashion + Function

My parents were just visiting me out here in Jackson Hole and my mom always nicely leaves some of her clothing that I pine for behind for me. Her last visit she left me with an adorable zebra striped Tory Birch tunic and this time it was just as good - another pair of OkaB shoes. I have purchased about 3 pairs of these shoes from a store in Lake Forest, B. Dragonfly, and today I was excited to see that I can also get them online. These shoes are wonderful - they truly embody practicality, as they are not only fashionable (my boyfriend actually compliments them!) and well priced (they average $30) but the most comfortable shoes that I have ever worn. I am very hard on both shoes and purses and these stand up to anything from mud puddles to dog chewing. These shoes can ever go in the dishwasher!!! Check them out:

Bowled Over

I have quite a few wedding presents to purchase in the next couple weeks and when I came across this in the New York Times this past weekend i decided that it will fit the bill perfectly(at least it is better than the last remaining dish towel on the William Sonoma registry). So here it is:

No, it is not to hold ping pong paddles - it is the Como fruit bowl! A "green" fruit bowl for that matter, made out of compressed sugi wood and designed by Enzo Mari.

Three Little Pigs

I couldn't help but smile when I came across these new die cut pig tags from Linda & Harriett.

I hope they make you smile too! ($6 for a pack of three pig tags)

Fall Colors Kicked up a Notch

After five nights of frost I cannot pretend that summer is not coming to end. The color palette of this collage, styled by Molly FitzSimons, is perfect for fall! I love that that it uses the traditional colors of the season but without the traditional drabness.

I look forward to coming up with some of my own decor choices for this palette later today.

Tea Tin Vases

I am sure to be drinking a lot more afternoon tea as the Fall comes, especially since I came across a brilliant second use for the empty tea tins-vases. I typically use my old tins as random storage containers for my desk but I think even those will soon be converted to these creative vases (compliments of Martha Stewart Living).

Eco Fan

This was not exactly the type of fan I planned on utilizing Labor Day but the 40 degree weather warranted it-- the eco fan! It is as sleek as it is useful. You place this fan on the top of a wood stove and it distributes the warm air into your living space. The coolest part (well, at least what fascinated me!) is that the movement of the blades is powered solely by the fires heat! Get yours here.
