I am sure to be doing some shopping while I am Spain and Italy but first I may just have to treat myself to some of the new items that recently arrived at Milk and Honey Home. They really always have the best cake stands (I already own one of theirs) and the newest one may just be my next purchase.

and I am off...
Today is the day that we finally depart for our European adventure! Although our final destination is Italy we will be spending the first day in Madrid and thought it was only appropriate to share some inspiration from my favorite Spanish interior design magazine, nuevo estilo, to get me in the mood! I definitely wouldn't mind enjoying tapas in either of these dining areas...

a sweet slumber
How could you not sleep well in this bedroom designed by Kelly Wearstler for the hotel, maison 140!? It plush, luxurious and perfect blend of textures. I especially love the wood grain appearance of the wallpaper, shape of the headboard and wall of mirrors--all just divine.

packing list {italian riviera}
I spent most of this past weekend trying to strategically pack for my first European visit. My bag is a small one and I am attempting to fit in attire for the beach, country and city--it is proving difficult. I thought I should start one setting at a time and this would absolutely be my ideal items for the Italian Riviera portion of the trip...

If you're planning a trip and need a new suitcase to pack all your stuff into then why not check out the Very store, where there are loads of different designs. It's great when you can match your style to your personality, even with luggage.

jaw dropping perfection
In a post, whenever I say "my jaw dropped" my boyfriend likes to poke fun and asks if my jaw really truly dropped. I am happy to saw that in this case not only did my jaw dropped but I gasped. The home of Erin Fetherson is just perfection--I love every detail, ever color, every fabric, and the romantic (without being fussy) feel throughout.

'tis the season...
...for al fresco dining. I may have mentioned that I am going to Italy in little over a week (ok, I know I have mentioned it but I am just a wee bit excited) and I just officially made my first dinner reservation (in Italian)! I am so excited to experience Italian cuisine and even more so to enjoy a rustic dinner outdoors looking over the tuscan countryside....

a modern cave
A modern cave--sounds like an oxymoron but it this particular "cave" is just that! The rough stone and terra cotta tile are a lovely backdrop for the modern fixtures, furniture and hardware. There is there something so nostalgic and refreshing about this eat in kitchen and I am stunned by the way the room is anything but dark. Truly an inspiring and natural space.

dining in the dark
Dark colors can easily make a room seem, well, dark. These dining rooms are anything but that. They perfectly blend the drama of dark slate with stark white to create rooms full of interest and contrast. And those amazing wood floors--don't even get me started, sigh.

They are whimsical, bold and fresh and sure to make a statement--bright blue cabinets. They are also just pretty darn fun...

layers of patterns
Serene bedrooms full of pale colors, simple pieces and casual styling are certainly desirable for relaxation but what about in the morning when you need to be energized? This tribal style bedroom full of color and layered in patterns would be the perfect room in which to jump start my day and maybe even finally get me to a hot yoga class in the morning!

shades of gray {dream home 2011}
The 2011 Dream Home certainly shows off every shade of gray—from deep charcoal to pale pewter. If you are looking to add this color to your home these rooms provide fantastic inspiration with their textures, treatments and pieces.

What about these rooms inspired you the most? I particularly love the textured walls of the office and the antique mirror mounted in the fireplace.

current cravings {classic coastal}
Maybe it is because I will be headed to the beach (one in Italy!) soon but I am completely drawn to sand and sea inspired colors. If I am ever lucky enough to have a beach home you can be sure that these classic and jaw dropping pieces can be found in it...

still loving {burnt orange + powder blue}
Your taste in interior design may evolve but there are always going to be those elements you always come back to. For me, that mostly relates to color palettes. I have always loved complementary color combinations and none as much as burnt orange and powder blue--especially when softened with a floral motif...

hot tin {ceiling}
When I first glanced at this room I thought it looked very functional but nothing spectacular and then I looked at the ceiling in the kitchen--an ornate tin (I think) panel that makes this space anything but ordinary. I adore tin tiles and think it is such an unexpected way to define the kitchen area and juxtapose the sleek lines in the space.

candy colored therapy
It is a rainy spring morning here in Wyoming, which to be honest I really don't mind because it makes the smell of the spring to come even stronger. However, I could use a few pops of candy color to counteract the gray in the skies. These pieces could easily do that any day of the year...

kitchen crush {a fresh start}
If you have been reading delight by design for a while you will know that I have a love of neutral palettes, open shelving, and simple styling--which is why these two kitchens have stolen my heart. They also both happen to feature a little bit of a twist on in kitchen dining, from the bench seating in this one...
