seeing in black + white

Sometimes seeing things in black and white isn't always the best practice. However, in interior design the the stark contrast of black and white is definitely always a great bet! I think that it allows the patterns in a room to really stand out and help a clean and classic look to be achieved.

However, I think I do prefer a room that is predominantly white with black touches versus the other way around. What about you?

Wow wow wow...

I have just done my bedroom in black and white and these are great inspiration for me to finish it off with a bit more graphic punch in some of the finer details ... fabulous!

Loving your blog Blair xx
Love Black and White...great pictures, wish I had stairs I would do the animal print carpet on them...thinking of doing animal print wallpaper as a back splash for a few years until I decide on a tile and new counter tops...Love your blog Thanks CAM

There's just something so timeless and sophisticated about black and white. I'm with you - white with touches of black works best for me. Gorgeous post!

Simple black and white will always be chic. I can never decide what colors I want in my room(s), so I always fall back on b&w.

Love that first rug, too!

I adore these spaces! Am especially drawn to the patterned wall paper and carpeting... I am such a Deco girl at heart.

And I do agree that a predominantly white space with black accents is a bit more welcoming than the inverse...

Fabulous post, B!

I love to agree that white and black is a classic combo and sometimes the perfect fit for a room. My upstairs bath is white/black and I love it.

i don't use black and white in my decor really, but i think it's so classy (wearing it always makes you look polished). love these photos.
Love black and white combo. And I'm like you- I prefer lots of white with a little bit of black!

Love black and white together, but I do agree with you - I prefer white with black touches b/c it can feel quite dark. All these images, though just seem cozy rather than dark, but I just don't think I'd be bold enough.

ditto - me too. black on white is definitely the way to go.

(now, onto the next question - is a zebra black on white or white on black?)

;)

Love the black and white, what a great collection of pictures. I think I prefer mostly white with black but lately I have been wanting to paint my master bedroom a dark gray, almost black-don't ask me why...

I'm more into accents of black. I'm finding myself liking black furniture right now.

The rooms with the white walls look especially classy to me.

I used to be such a black and white snob. Meaning, for me black and white was so practical and predictable. That was of course, before I learned about patterns and accessories and mixing them in ways that was very unpredictable. I love these rooms!

I definitely prefer a white room with black accessories!

I love the ceiling in the second photograph. I would agree with you about the white with black accessories too!

I agree. I am a big fan of a white room with black touches. Of course, I would not go without pops of colour, like the orange throw in the last photo.

Gorgeous.

I'm with you — white with a touch of black. I also think I'm the only one that never got into the trend of black dishes. I don't want to see food on black.

ahhh I love that striped wall...

Me too, love the stripes and the straircase. I prefer black on white...
The last pic looks more brown to me, but anyway, it would be to much 'action' in the bedroom...(hmmm)

I'm a b&w girl and I love the patterns used here [perhaps not all together].

That floor rug is fantastic and I adore the wall hanging over the mantle

OREO!
I love all white with black details, but the all black with white is so glamourous. I could see a power room or a lounge like that, or even a swanky coffee shop "Black & White.
